Heirloom Seeds

“I want to tell you about the most hopeful thing in the world. It is a seed.”

~ Janisse Ray, The Seed Underground

To me, seeds are quite simply magic. The fact that a tall, frilly pink poppy or a juicy broccoli stem can originate in a tiny seed that would fit on a pinhead is proof magic exists in our world.

Old varieties of seeds like our grandparents and earlier peoples grew can tell lovely stories; heartbreaking tales; link generations together; travel great distances to new lands; give us hope each spring. We would die as a species without seeds.

Here is where you can educate yourself on all things to do with seeds. Many of us have never planted a seed, and haven’t experienced the thrill of eating a juicy ripe tomato they grew themselves. Let’s change that!

I'm Dani Brown, lover of heirloom plants and teller of seed stories. I discovered my passion for old-fashioned plants and gardens when I was heritage garden coordinator at a British Columbia museum.
I help gardeners (and anyone who loves food and our planet) learn why and how to find and grow heirloom plants.

Find out more about me here.
